Is this really a surprise? Shane Warne and Liz Hurley. The Age asks How. Does. He Do.It. and goes on to reveal his ‘secret’. Mind you, it is fitting that his secret comes straight from a famous US comedy. But here is an alternative theory.
There’s these two guys in a bar. To their own satisfaction and relief, they’re not famous themselves but they do work with the famous. They skim the cream from behind the scenes and walk away when things blow-up. As they often do. (They probably don’t really walk away. I’m sure they work very hard. But we’re telling a story here.) They’re our two protagonists sharing the same journey and it’s possible, even probable that their common pain is what draws them together like strange attractors.
They begin talking and quickly realise they do the same job. Not surprising really as it’s one of those ‘industry’ bars. If they were office workers it’d be Friday evening but their hours are 24/7. They don’t hesitate to talk shop as you do when you meet a professional peer. Another thing you do is to lament your professional woes and theirs were deep. You see they both had clients in dire straits. These guys live and die on their client’s fortunes. They’re Managers. Not business managers but people managers. Famous people managers. Now for famous people ‘dire straits’ is not being famous.
Manager 1:
Yeah, no-one is talking to Warnie anymore.
Manager 2:
Hmph, no-one is talking about Liz.
Manager 1:
Ow, that hurts.
They stare into their drinks while they ponder their misfortunes.
Manager 1:
I need something to get him some attention.
Manager 2:
You and me both.
Manager 1:
You know what’d be really funny?
Manager 2:
?
Manager 1:
Hehe, imagine if we leaked a story about them getting together.
Manager 2:
HA Ha ha ha. I love it. That’d be hilarious. Imagine.
Manager 1:
Hey! Wait a minute. Maybe we could.
Manager 2:
Nah. Really? Nah. You’re not serious?
